Anslee Reaves

Dear strange, hazel-eyed girl,
I’ve noticed.
Rose-colored glasses are your favorite accessory.
People, places, and things are more than just nouns to you.
Your dreams are so otherworldly, you catapulted into Mars,
Only to prove that anything is possible.
The world sees you.

Dear influential, hazel-eyed girl,
I’m convinced.
Bravery plagiarized your definition.
Determination committed identity theft when she met you.
Optimism still remembers your smile.
If I were a lawyer, I’d say,
You probably should’ve sued the dictionary by now.

Dear concerned, hazel-eyed girl,
I’m sorry.
Humanity is on a mean streak.
Karma is in a twelve-step program.
Kindness is a forgotten language.
Forgiveness moved across the country.
And these days, she’s harder to reach.

Dear powerful, hazel-eyed girl,
I’m confident.
Despite everything I’ve said,
Celebrating the future is still on your calendar.
You will model gentleness, so it never goes out of style.
And no matter how many times you have to reintroduce yourself,
Please understand, you are unforgettable.
