Grey Skies

Stormy weather inbound on a crash
course with these shining blue heavens
overhead as we feel a light courier
warn us on the cool breeze.

Booming drums in the distance
while yellow light flashes in the sky
branching down to earth like golden
trees growing out of clouds.

Rain drops fall and I wonder if it’s
falling up; if the sky's an ocean
and the earth is Atlantis as
the world above begins anew.

I stand tall longing for the flood
as the water falling faster soaks
me through to the bone and washes
away all the self-hatred.

I duck in cover now wishing this world
to stay but the flood waters are rising
up to the rooftops and the water’s
turning red and salty with blood.

The sun sets and I can see the aether
burning flames, see that their
fires won’t stop burning even when
the water pours overhead.

I see souls flying up
or maybe falling down.
